Chapter 1 Understanding Social Science Contributions
Every time I attended a gathering during my university days and mentioned that I was majoring in psychology, at least one person would inevitably inquire, “So, you can read minds?” Alas, that's not the case. However, social sciences offer us a wealth of fascinating insights about our own behavior and society. This publication aims to disseminate knowledge about our understanding of ourselves, as well as the research that unveils these insights.
If you have a narrative to share, we would be thrilled to hear from you! Here’s what we seek:
We generally publish articles and narratives centered on scientific explorations of human behavior. This encompasses psychology, sociology, criminology, and economics, but it can also touch on sports science, marketing, medicine, philosophy, biology, and much more.
In essence, we welcome any contributions that enhance our understanding of human nature, with a strong emphasis on scientific rigor. Our goal is to take intriguing research findings and present them in a manner that is easily digestible. While social scientists may not possess mind-reading abilities, they certainly hold valuable knowledge!
Here are a few ideas for submissions that we would love to see:
- Research Summaries: Select a compelling study and explain its significance.
- Concept Reviews: Explore concepts like forgiveness, stereotype threat, or creativity and discuss their relevance.
- Current Events Application: Analyze how elite theory can shed light on the contemporary American political landscape.
- Theory Application to Problems: Discuss how principles of self-expansion theory can enhance personal relationships or how the anchoring effect can be utilized in negotiations.
- Narrative Sharing: Describe an event and illustrate how social science provides context or insight.
We're quite flexible, so feel free to propose stories that may fall outside these categories. While not every submission may be accepted, we sincerely appreciate every contribution!
Before you submit, please ensure you:
- Complete your story. We accept both previously published and original articles, but be sure to submit a polished draft.
- Have a Medium account that displays your name, a brief bio, and a photo of yourself.
- Exclude personal calls to action, such as “subscribe to my newsletter” or “follow me on Twitter.” These can be included in your author profile.
- Include an image with the appropriate usage rights or a Creative Commons license. Free resources like Unsplash can be helpful.
- Anchor your articles in high-quality research, linking to the relevant studies within your text.
- Tag your submission appropriately, ensuring “Science” is one of the tags.
How to submit:
Leave a comment on this article saying, “I’d like to contribute!” and we’ll grant you author access. Make certain that your article is finalized (edited and proofread) prior to submission.
Submit your article to the Social Science publication, and refer to our guidelines on how to do so.
We aim to respond swiftly. While not all articles may be published, we strive to provide feedback on every submission.
We eagerly anticipate your contributions!
