Navigating Life as an I.T. Professional and AR/VR Student

Chapter 1: A Day Off and Reflection

Welcome back to Episode 4 of my Personal Journey Podcast, where I share insights from my life in I.T. and my experiences as an AR/VR design student!

Monday: Today was a day off for me! However, I had class, so I made a stop at the office first after realizing I forgot my computer. After class, I headed to the AR/VR Lab to connect with my fellow students. I encountered the AR/VR Legend Thinker, who is always brainstorming ways to support student success in AR/VR. His innovative mind truly inspires me. He was troubleshooting a lab computer that displayed a blue screen with a generic error message. A quick Google search led us to various solutions, and we discovered that the scan disk command resolved the problem. It seems like work follows me everywhere, but I don’t see today’s tasks as work.

You might wonder why I choose this path and find joy in helping others. The answer isn't profound—it's simply that I enjoy alleviating others' burdens. We all face challenges, and it feels rewarding to assist someone in need. Throughout my various side jobs, I've learned that everyone requires help at some point. I can't do everything alone, and receiving assistance is meaningful to me. My goal is to provide that same sense of relief to as many people as possible through my work in I.T. I may not be able to change the world, but brightening someone’s day brings me happiness. While I know I have much to learn, I’m committed to making my workplace a bit better for everyone. You could say it's my calling, even if I struggle to articulate it. Helping others feels natural and fulfilling. Just to clarify, I’m not an angel; I have my flaws, and perhaps my faith helps me navigate daily challenges.

Oh dear, I got a bit philosophical again! I’ve been doing that frequently lately. Thanks for listening. I’m not sure if anyone reads these journals, but writing has become a soothing practice for me. It reminds me of biking with my father—one of my happiest memories. Even on chilly days, when my nose and ears felt frozen, I felt joy from simply being with him. I long for more moments like that. I cherish the time spent with my parents and look forward to seeing them again soon.

Tuesday: Today was filled with confusion and a few mishaps! I accidentally sent an incorrect email to my Business School Family and had to resend everything. It’s been a hectic month full of work.

I also assisted someone in my communication building with the mail app and helped another with monitor and shortcut issues. These problems were easy to resolve—just a few quick Google searches did the trick. It felt nice to start the day with gratitude from those I helped. Later, I attended class where we did some 3D scanning, which was quite exciting! With a project due next week, my journal entries might be shorter.

After class, things calmed down, and I worked on a printer support request from my Business School. Tomorrow is another day, and now I’m off to tackle my Unity Project #2. Wish me luck!

Wednesday: Today brought another set of experiences, the highlight being when I finally helped someone with a secure document—a task that had been on my mind for about a week. Reading the fine print made all the difference! A tip for all my fellow I.T. folks: always read the fine print; it might just solve your problem!

In class, we discussed linear versus nonlinear storytelling. For instance, my entries from Monday to Friday create a linear narrative. In contrast, a nonlinear story might jump from Tuesday to Thursday and then back to Monday. It’s an interesting concept! I hope the younger generation catches on; we used to say "that’s lit" back in the day!

The rest of the day was relaxing, but with my Unity project deadline approaching, I need to focus. See you all tomorrow!

Thursday: Unfortunately, the internet went out today, so I’m writing this on Friday! Let me take a moment to collect my thoughts. Thursday was quite eventful! I made the questionable decision to eat three donuts—a rare indulgence for me, as I haven’t had one in over a decade! Let’s just say my hands were shaking afterward.

I learned that you can experience a sugar rush from donuts! I also munched on an Everything Bagel with poppy seeds, which added to the experience. If you ever want to get a kick from food, I recommend trying Korean peppers—they start off sweet and turn fiery!

After that wild experience, I managed to finish part of my Unity project, which capped off my chaotic Thursday. Remember to live life and engage in safe adventures!

Friday: Ah, sweet Friday! I made it through another busy week. The morning was steady, but after class, I relaxed while working on surveys, which have netted me nearly $600 in just a few months!

I also enjoyed Chick-Fil-A fries, courtesy of my best office mate, Mrs. Sweets. I dipped them in Honey Mustard, Chick-Fil-A Sauce, and Polynesian Sauce—each one delicious! I wrapped up my day by helping a student reset a broken MacBook, managing to fix it in under a minute! It was a fulfilling week, and I plan to release one more episode of this series before moving on to my other projects.

Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to our next episode, which promises to be a surprise since I’m not sure what next week will bring! Let’s discover it together in the upcoming podcast. See you next time!
