We may not realize the detrimental impact of our inner dialogue until we consciously reflect on it. A friend once highlighted my self-criticism regarding my athletic abilities, prompting a revelation: I would never speak this way to a child or someone I cherish. Recognizing this, I vowed to alter the tone of my self-talk, treating myself with the respect I deserve.

I strive to eliminate negative self-descriptions and the pressure of “shoulds.” Instead of claiming I am not skilled at something, I express my desire to improve. Although this may appear trivial at first, I noticed a significant shift in my self-perception, as I began to view myself not as inferior, but as someone deserving of respect and kindness.

Now, I approach self-care as though I am nurturing a treasured companion. I apply lotion with intention, valuing each moment, and I allow myself rest when necessary. I also take joy in expressing myself through clothing and accessories that resonate with me. These shifts, though subtle, have profoundly impacted my self-image, allowing me to embrace the idea of treating myself as royalty rather than a servant.
