Ranting Without Bones: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Chapter 1: Embracing My Entertainment Aspirations
Living the dream? Well, kind of. I’ve always aspired to break into the entertainment scene, and surprisingly, writing turned out to be my gateway.
While my writing endeavors have yielded fulfilling results, like anyone else, I crave more. The fun, lighthearted top ten lists have been enjoyable (you can check them out), but I’m ready to escalate my game—I want to rant.
Yet, I face a challenge: I’ve managed to keep negativity at bay for the past couple of years, despite my naturally cynical disposition. After all, the world might be crumbling, but I’m doing just fine.
Regardless, I’m itching to unleash my thoughts on any topic that strikes me. Let’s just hope I don’t end up writing some sentimental piece about nature and its transformative effects on my life. No more deep reflections; it’s time for some good old-fashioned ranting.
Let’s Get This Rant Started
To kick things off, I’ll dive into a subject I’ve tripped over myself in the past: movie recaps. A few months ago, I penned an article on this topic, and the results were exactly what I anticipated.
In that piece, I tried being generous, suggesting that recaps don’t ruin films but rather lessen their value. I stated that one might watch a recap if time is tight or if the film is subpar.
Well, enough of that—no more being fair! Movie recaps are a colossal waste of time. Instead of spending five to twenty minutes on a recap, you’d be better off engaging in something productive. If you’re short on patience, opt for a review instead; gaining insights from a critic holds far more value than a bland summary of the movie.
Unlike the cinephile Simon Dillon, I recognize the damage that mindless recaps can inflict. Rather than playing the peacemaker role, I need to be straightforward and acknowledge when recaps are simply not worth it.
Oh no, I’ve gone off on a tangent again. I knew this would happen, but let’s give it another shot. Here we go—3, 2, 1, and rant!
Ranting About Disney's Chart-Toppers
For several weeks, a Disney tune dominated the Billboard Hot 100. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the animated film Encanto became a surprising hit among casual listeners. What an odd era we live in when a song from an animated feature reaches the top! What captivated the audience? Was it the infectious Latin beats or just a catchy melody? Perhaps people craved a bit of joy amidst the overwhelming despair of daily life? Yes, it seems to be a mix of all three.
I get it now. People were looking for a simple, joyful tune, and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” delivered. Everyone seeks a bit of happiness, even if it comes from a lively musical number.
Musicals, however, are often viewed as a low form of entertainment. When I watched Encanto last year, I nearly walked out when the first song began. I should have anticipated it; Disney is known for their musical flair. If I wanted to avoid disappointment, I’d stick to Pixar or DreamWorks movies.
Though I’m not a fan of musicals, I can’t deny that “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and other tracks from Encanto are enjoyable. It’s not a soundtrack I’d rush to buy, but if I need a mood boost, I might just put on some Disney show tunes.
Ah, there I go, not ranting again. See, I struggle with this. I’ve filled my mind with positive affirmations and motivational quotes, and it’s dulled my edge. Perhaps I should drop the 'edge' from my username since I currently lack one.
Yet, I know that one day, something will ignite my frustration, and I’ll have my moment to rant. Until then, I’ll focus on the bright side of life. There’s so much to appreciate if you take a moment to reflect.
