Delusional Dreams or Inspiring Aspirations? Finding Balance
Written on
Chapter 1: The Dilemma of Dreams
Sometimes, I find myself wrestling with lofty ideas; I can’t help but question: Are these aspirations truly delusional, or do they represent admirable ambitions? Have you ever found yourself pondering similar thoughts? It’s as if you’re stuck in the limbo between positive visualization and an overactive imagination. Today, I found myself deep in this imaginative void.
Why, you ask? Let’s rewind a bit for context.
Section 1.1: The Journey Begins
After a whirlwind of activities during a few days off work, I finally carved out some time to unwind and reflect. During this quiet period, I contemplated three pivotal questions:
- Who do I aspire to become?
- What values do I hold dear?
- What are my natural passions and what do I admire?
In short, I engaged in what I like to call Value Visualization. This exercise involves envisioning your life through the lens of your core values.
What did I uncover through this process? While I certainly have a youthful yearning for material success and recognition, my deeper aspiration lies in achieving mastery over myself.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Five Pillars of Mastery
I’ve categorized my quest for self-mastery into five essential components:
- Mindset
- Movement
- Nutrition (Micronutrients + Macronutrients)
- Reflection (Writing)
- Meditation
I hold each of these elements in high regard due to their significance in the journey toward self-mastery. Although I’ll delve into these five aspects in a future article, today I want to spotlight one particular avenue that resonates with me: yoga, which is reflected in the images above.
This train of thought led me to a bold idea: Why not pursue becoming a yoga instructor? That sounds exhilarating! However, there’s one hurdle — my flexibility and mobility are far from what’s required to teach yoga (at least for now). Touching my toes is a challenge, my lower back is stiff, and my glutes are incredibly tight.
So I ask again: Is aspiring to be a yoga instructor merely a fanciful dream or a noble ambition?
Section 1.2: The Path Forward
The reality is, I’m uncertain, and perhaps you are too. There’s a possibility that, regardless of my efforts, I may lack the physique or dedication needed to excel as a yoga practitioner or teacher — which would label it a delusional dream. Conversely, if I immerse myself in this practice, I might discover newfound flexibility, leading me to become a capable yoga instructor — a commendable ambition.
The truth remains elusive, but one thing is clear: the only way to uncover the answer is to commit and see where this journey takes me.
Do you perceive my ambition as a delusion or an admirable goal? Do you have aspirations that blur this line for you? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
I would greatly appreciate any insights from Alina Pitt, a qualified yoga instructor — any guidance would be invaluable!
