Chapter 1: The Witchling's Dilemma

Eugenica, a novice witch, has been tasked by the elders to discover a spell to manage her one hundred mischievous black cats residing in her cottage. This is no simple feat. On the day of the Halloween Eclipse, staying indoors seems wise, for ominous petroglyphs are rumored to be shifting.

However, two of her most well-behaved cats venture outside, prompting Eugenica to chase after them, leading to an unexpected meeting with the Hunting Woman.

A Goddess Emerges from the Petroglyphs to Hunt

“By the righteous path, I command you to leave,” Eugenica stammers, her voice barely rising above a whisper.

“Ah, but you are merely a witchling,” replies the Hunter, her tone as unyielding as stone, echoing through the distant eclipse. “A girl on the brink of womanhood, out here alone. Why?”

With no spell at her disposal, Eugenica can only respond honestly.

“I’ve come to rescue my cats. I hold them dear.”

“Do you truly? As I once loved, as I love now, as I will love, these dogs.” The Hunting Woman whistles, and the sleek dogs weave around her legs, slipping in and out of visibility, transcending time itself, while the stone remains eternal.

“If you claim to love these cats, then do not attempt to constrain them, witchling. Do not diminish their true essence.”

“Yes, my lady,” Eugenica replies.

“Consider your own journey as well. There are many paths to being Eugenica.”

“Yes, my lady,” she answers, cradling Quiet Claws and Candle Ice against her chest. “I see a reflection of our bond in our devotion to our companions,” she states, bowing respectfully to the Hunter.

The Stone Hunter's laughter reverberates through the ages, a sound steeped in a hundred years of anticipation, as the world swirls in the flickering Eclipse of the Ages, merging all time into one.
