# Embrace Action: Finding the Courage to Begin Anew

Written on

Chapter 1: The Power of Taking Action

What if I feel too anxious? What if I struggle to articulate my thoughts? What if I don’t come across as intelligent? The interval between contemplating an action and actually executing it is filled with potential. Whether it’s driving a car for the first time, embarking on a new job, or going on a date, this period is rife with excitement, apprehension, and anticipation. This space—where desire meets action—is often where our minds spiral into overthinking, feeding us a blend of fears and self-doubt.

What if I embarrass myself?

These worries can distort our perception and lead to unnecessary drama, causing us to suffer from anxiety even before we try. Why seek a new job or make significant life changes when the outcome is uncertain? But why not take that leap?

The initial attempt at something unfamiliar is simply an experiment. We dip our toes in without fully committing. Were your most memorable experiences in love or art derived from the very first attempt?

So, how do we break free from this cycle?

Count down from five, then act—simple as that. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Choose growth over stagnation. Avoid complicating things. Stop overthinking and just act.

To be honest, you've already accomplished this countless times throughout your life. You engage in actions daily; you don’t need to learn how to act—you need to clear the mental barriers obstructing your path.

Setting intentions is crucial. It’s like making a pact with yourself, deciding that you are ready to progress. The moment we initiate any action, we are taking a step away from inertia, propelling ourselves forward. This initial act seals the commitment, allowing us to advance in our new direction, leading to further action.

We channel our energy into creation instead of allowing limiting beliefs and fears to dominate our minds.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” —Dale Carnegie

Taking that first step involves transitioning from thought to expression to action. Without this sequence, our creative energy remains trapped, causing distress. Creative energy, like all energy, should flow. If contained, it can lead to frustration and anxiety.

Action not only brings our ideas to life but also grounds them in reality, allowing us to continue creating and engaging with the world. This process makes us more vibrant, innovative, and brave. Moreover, taking action can reset our expectations and disrupt the narratives that our egos create.

The experiences I gained from hosting my first women's gathering provided me with real insights—things I can apply in my life and improve upon as I progress.

It's not as daunting as we often perceive it to be; rather, we tend to inflate the significance of these experiences. If you are the one complicating matters, then the real challenge lies within you. Remember this mantra:

“I love my creative life more than I love cooperating with my own oppression.” —Clarissa Pinkola Estes

The first attempt symbolizes bravery—action triumphing over inaction. We should celebrate ourselves for simply making that move, for signing that metaphorical contract. Transitioning from thought to action is what truly matters.

Choosing to pursue something new is a victory for our desires over our fears and comfort zones—a victory for embracing life, growth, and lightness over rigidity and stagnation.

So, write that novel, learn to play that instrument, start that business, ask someone out, attend that yoga class, film that video, or send that email.

Spread your wings instead of remaining inactive.

We shouldn’t expect our first song to be a chart-topper, nor should we anticipate our inaugural business venture to be a massive success right away.

But a song must be created. A business must be established.

Commitment and action in the real world are essential. The longer we suppress these desires, the more they weigh us down and intensify our struggles.

Release your ideas into the world. Take action.

“It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” —Seneca

Embark on something for the first time. Choose an item from your bucket list. Attend that dance class you’ve always hesitated to join. Live your dreams—experience what you truly desire.

Challenge yourself. Expand your horizons. Enjoy the process.

But don’t anticipate applause from others.

The reward of your first attempt lies in confronting fear and overcoming it.

It’s about personal growth and breaking through your own limitations.

It’s about you unfurling your wings.

“It’s not about whether we have what it takes; it’s about whether we choose to pursue it.” —Seth Godin
