Exploring Your Game Preferences: Skill and Audience Impact

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding Game Preferences

Recently, I stumbled upon an insightful article that proposed 21 questions for self-reflection, which I decided to use as prompts for my writing. One of the questions that stood out to me was: "Would you prefer to compete in a game against someone who is more or less skilled than you? Would your choice change if others were observing?"

This question piqued my interest. Personally, I am not overly concerned with winning, whether in board games or sports. For instance, when I play a board game with my husband and he emerges victorious, I often respond with something like, "That's great!" This tends to frustrate him because he expects me to be upset about losing. Instead, I choose to celebrate his win. My enjoyment of the game itself outweighs any concern for the final score. Even when I lose, I typically shrug it off, thinking, "Oh well, that's fine." My competitive spirit is quite low, in stark contrast to my husband, who thrives on competition. When he wins, he exclaims, "HA! Take that, loser!" while I simply reply, "That was fun."

Returning to the initial question: "Would you rather play against someone who is less or more skilled than you? Would your answer differ if there was an audience?" Personally, I find that it doesn't matter whether I play against someone less skilled or more skilled. I enjoy the game for its own sake, and the presence of an audience would not alter my perspective. If I lose, that's okay, and if I win, that's fine too.

What about you? Do you prefer playing against someone who is better or worse than you, and does your preference change if others are watching?

The first video titled "Making BAD Choices In Would You Rather Game" discusses the intriguing dynamics of decision-making in game scenarios. It explores how our choices reflect our personalities and preferences.

The second video, "The Frustrated Gamer - Best Would You Rather Questions," delves into entertaining and challenging questions that can spark meaningful conversations and reflections about our gaming experiences.
