Chapter 1: Introduction to Our Channel
Before diving into our earnings for 2022, let us introduce ourselves. My partner and I manage a YouTube channel titled Kritika & Pranav | Programmer Couple, where we focus on coding and programming tutorials. Our content ranges from foundational JavaScript and Angular lessons to advanced topics like cloud functions. Additionally, I share insights from my experience as a Full-Stack Web Developer and Technical Project Manager, covering Agile project management, productivity, and various tech-related themes.
Here’s a brief overview of our analytics for 2022. We’ll begin by examining our views and subscriber count at the start of the year compared to where we ended up.
Average Daily Views on Our Channel in 2022
Our journey commenced slowly, with around 800 daily views initially. However, during the summer months, we experienced a few “viral” videos, reaching 3K-4K views on individual uploads. By May, our average views per day had risen to approximately 1.2K, only to dip to 500 shortly after. Yet, we observed a steady climb, culminating in a peak of 3K views per day. While this may not seem significant for larger channels, for us, it felt monumental — imagine addressing an audience of 3,000 in person!
In September, we saw a shift as our YouTube Shorts began to gain traction, prompting us to enhance our content strategy. This consistency paid off, with November becoming our most successful month, averaging about 8K views daily.
Now, you might be curious about our subscriber growth during this period.
Subscriber Growth on Our Channel in 2022
At the beginning of 2022, we had 1.8K subscribers. By year’s end, this number had surged to 5.79K, marking an impressive nearly threefold increase. While we're thrilled with this progress, it's just the beginning of our journey. We owe our gratitude to all our viewers for their support through likes, comments, and subscriptions.
Let’s touch on a topic many may not fully understand: how YouTube compensates creators. The terms RPM (Revenue Per Mille) and CPM (Cost Per Mille) are crucial here, as they reflect the earnings per thousand views. Channels focused on beauty or finance typically earn more, averaging about $50 per thousand views. In contrast, our tech-oriented channel faces lower revenue due to a more niche audience and limited advertising opportunities. If you're contemplating launching a YouTube channel, consider the finance or beauty sectors unless you have a clear vision for your content.
Now, let’s reveal our earnings for 2022. Starting in January, our revenue was $39. Interestingly, despite subscriber growth, our revenue dipped slightly throughout the year. From January to August, we averaged about $35 monthly, primarily due to a recession that limited ad spending.
Estimated Earnings from Our YouTube Channel in 2022
By September and October, our revenue rebounded to around $39, matching our January figures. Then came November, when we experienced a significant boost in earnings, reaching $105 — three times our usual income. December saw a slight decrease, yet it remained above our average of $39, thanks to the holiday advertising surge.
So, what’s the total for the year? We earned $537.07 from YouTube AdSense. Breaking it down, we made about $3.80 for each video posted. This isn't a quick route to wealth; we create videos primarily for the joy of sharing knowledge and continuous learning.
In addition to YouTube, we operate a blog that generated approximately $170 in revenue for 2022. Overall, our total earnings for the year amounted to $700.
Looking ahead, we're excited about our future endeavors and eager to see what 2023 holds. Reflecting on our early videos, we remember the subpar audio and video quality and our initial lack of confidence. Yet, with ongoing improvements and enjoyment in the process, we eagerly anticipate the journey ahead!
In closing, we wrote this article to share our income transparently and document our journey. We believe learning from others' experiences is invaluable. If you're considering starting a YouTube channel, we hope our story serves as a helpful guide.
