To illustrate, think of dopamine as a high-five, while endorphins resemble a handshake. Dopamine's effects are fleeting—necessary but unreliable indicators of true enjoyment. In contrast, endorphins promote more sustained feelings of happiness.

Most people tend to avoid stress, but it’s important to note a significant distinction. The term "stress" often refers specifically to "distress." However, its counterpart, "eustress," signifies positive stress. Examples of eustress include thrilling activities like rollercoaster rides, vacations, first dates, and even promotions at work.

In instances where there is a hormonal surge without any real threat, that’s positive stress. I found this concept intriguing during my research.

Subsection 1.2.2: The Influence of Food on Endorphin Levels

Certain foods can also trigger endorphin production. Chocolate and strawberries are two of the top contenders. This explains why chocolate is often a go-to treat for comfort or romance. Strawberries dipped in chocolate provide an endorphin-boosting double delight, especially on Valentine’s Day.

Interestingly, spicy foods can induce endorphin release as well. However, this connection is less positive; when consuming spicy foods, the body interprets the high levels of capsaicin as pain, prompting endorphin release as a natural painkiller and mood enhancer. Although this aspect diverges from our main focus, it's worth mentioning.
